Mrs. Workman’s talents joined Nassau Community College in 1995. Presently she is
Director of Special Programs for the Office of Human Resources where she implements
Training and Workforce Development Programs. Prior to NCC, a former journalist,
Mrs. Workman spent ten years at New York Newsday as an Editorial Assistant and five
years as a teacher at Roosevelt Junior Senior High School in Roosevelt, NY.
In 1989, Aurora founded Here Comes The DAWN, Inc a community based culture center
and cultural events promotion company. The DAWN was commissioned to travel with
production companies to Africa, France and many Islands of the Caribbean to produce
segments called, “Bridging the Gap.” These segments compare community life of Africans
in America to Africans all over the world. She is a former court advocate for Americorp
Crime Victims Assistance Program and Domestic Violence Victims.
Mrs. Workman remains a very community active person.
Aurora Workman has received several Community Service Awards including the 2009 SUNY Chancellors Award for Professional Service as well as an Honoree for the Salute to Unsung Sheroes and is listed in Who’s Who in Black America. As a recipient of the New York State Regent Professional Opportunities Scholarship, she continues to pursue a doctorate in Human Services. Aurora is the devoted wife of Michael, and mother of three children Jayden, Xavier & Michele.
